After surgery to remove something cancerous from a salivary gland, and still without the use of his voice,
Roger Ebert will get
back to the business of writing reviews. Good. For him, and for us. Love this guy, love his writing, love his always open mind about what makes movies good, bad and great. He may also be the last, I really do think, of what most Americans might call actual, honest-to-God movie critics. Nobody else is as totally trusted, or known, and I'm not sure anybody ever will be. The rest of us—and no offense to
Manohla or
Harry or
Lisa—are just writing, however passionately and well, for a niche. Or blogging.
